People are getting worried sick because of the continuous increase in the price of fuel for automobiles and how high it will probably be in the coming years. In the US, the fuel price has actually been less than the world price which other countries have to pay. It was only two years ago when the gasoline price reached more than $4 per gallon and the diesel price was almost $5 per gallon. People were complaining and whining because of this fuel price increase. The fact is, we were just beginning to pay what other countries around the world had experienced for the past several years.

Then, the price of gas went down again to its normal rate which is about $3 or less and every one stopped complaining and moved on. Unfortunately, the price of gas is going up once more—higher that $3 per gallon. In fact, it is estimated that the gasoline price per gallon will become over $4 again real soon. It is hardly possible to bring back gasoline at a lower price so you should take actions now and decide if you should get a diesel automatic car which has new advanced fuel efficiency technologies. The newly developed diesel engines are cleaner and quieter than their predecessors so they are more economical.  You can save a lot of fuel compared to a gasoline car even if they are of an equal power class.

A diesel is, in fact, more efficient than gasoline because it is designed to burn fuel more slowly so there’s less wasted energy. In a gasoline engine, almost 70% of the existing energy is used up by the cooling system and ends up going out to the tail pipe. In a diesel engine, the lost energy is about 50% or lower. By just referring to this fact, you can compute that the diesel is saving 30% more energy which makes it more efficient. So, if you are driving a diesel car and a gasoline-engine car the whole year under the same circumstances, you are expected to save at least 25% of the total cost of operation if the cost per gallon of the fuels is equal.

One of the main arguments about diesel engines is that they sound and look like trucks. This is no longer applicable nowadays since they are designed to be quiet and their automatic transmissions are smoother. If you are looking for an available used car then don’t miss looking at a diesel automatic just because you think they are noisy and smelly.  This is not he case any more.
