Understanding BMW Insurance Write Offs

There is no doubt that in Europe the BMW brand has been synonymous with quality build and luxury style, cars that will last for some time. This has even span across the Atlantic to the USA, where many buy BMW's knowing why and what they are buying. This perception of the brand has expanded into buying salvage or crash damaged cars, knowing that when out back on the road again, there still can be many years of life.

There are disadvantages though; the first is the price people are prepared to pay for a damaged BMW. The parts value of these machine alone, are worth some money, especially the genuine parts fitted at time of manufacturer. The truth is, that many can strip the car down, sell it for parts and make good money, from others repairing their own BMW. This alone, is why there is often a premium to pay for BMW insurance, in that the cost to repair these machines can be expensive. Many owners join BMW clubs, to try and get discount for their BMW insurance, as those joining a club are seen as enthusiasts and not joy riders.

The next reason for such a high price for BMW salvage is the resale value, especially if the car is rebuilt to a high standard. Unlike other executive cars, these machines still seem to a have a good resalable value even when they become older. Other large cars, often lose their value totally when they become 8 or so years old, as the cost to keep on the road, outweighs the luxury benefit.

Because of the demand, there is a group of individuals, who's only way of owning a good BMW, is to buy a crash damaged one and spend the time re building. Outweighing their lack of cash, for time spent.

However it is not always a bed of roses, much time can be spent looking for car parts that are just not available, and when they do hit the market, they will be sold to the highest bidder, unless they buy the parts new of course, which again are not cheap and may totally wipe out ant benefit of repair, another reason why BMW insurance can be high.

Those who buy the right car and find the right parts at a competitive price, can and often do, end up with a quality driving machine, not only worth more than they paid, but something to be proud to own and drive. Some will choose to sell the car on, to make a profit.

We must come back to the BMW insurance though, because at this point, you must declare that the car has been an insurance write off at some time (unless it is not on the register). Here, the insurance companies may choose to add a further premium to your insurance, because of the risk factor of a damaged repair car. So you need to investigate this issue before and repairs start, just to, make sure and savings you make are then wiped out in insurance costs.
