We cannot avoid that there are those who are trying to trick buyers and run away the cash. But, a little dose of precaution information will help you find good cars and successful steer it home.

Always gather information

If you little or no know-how about buying such vehicles, it is highly recommended that you gather info and basic knowledge. This will teach you the 5 W’s and an H (Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How). Don’t expect you can get a great deal if you just rush into nearest auto parks or cheap car auction center and bid all you want. It is always good to have a heads up so that you will not also become ignorant about it. Much more, you can attend several trial auctions to give you also a real experience.

Be prepared

When you are ready to get on the bidding, be prepared on everything. This includes checking out what kind of auction are you attending and what are the payment process. Do not forget to prepare your money so that the turnover of ownership of your win car is easy.

Check and inspect

Never forget to check and inspect the vehicle that you eyed. This way you can halfway guarantee that you are not buying a junk in the end. Some people missed the importance of checking and inspecting the repossessed cars available, and thus they regret it in the long run.

Barons’ Car Auction December 2010

Artilcle, Salvage Cars, Used Cars, Used Parts No Comments »

Car auctions are pretty much interesting, you get the chance to go for a ride of selection of cars. If Baron's Auction is counted, it enjoyed the benefits of the coming holidays as people are eying on getting themselves new stuff which can keep them entertained through the vacations.

The weather may have been freezing with record snowfalls over the preceding few days, but then Barons nevertheless managed to host a dazzling Yuletide Sale at Sandown Park on December 7th.

The icy environment couldn't effect the heat that warmed up the show, as none less than 44 of the cars found themselves new owners just in time for Christmas. It was a real difficult job picking up a star lot, because reportedly the event hosted some beautiful machines on offer. The highest bid was enjoyed by the magnificent 1959 Aston Martin DB MKIII DHC. The car, known for its elegance has been in the owned by one family since it was just three months old, and sold for £175,500.

Next in the line which was somewhat further down the price scale, but equally notable, was the ‘time warp’ 1970 MkI Ford Escort Delux. This was a pretty old car but surprisingly it rolled down 2,600 miles in 40 long years. The car was auctioned at £8,950, which is not a bad deal looking at its specs.

The top duo were followed by yet another DB MKIII which happened to be a restoration project, it was offered as a rolling shell and a number of boxes came along which contained the removed parts. The deal made a very decent £70,000, and then the 1935 SS1 Tourer was sold out for £78,250.

Barons’ MD, Laurence Sayers-Gillan stated,

Our Yuletide Sale is always popular, and I know that at least a couple of the lots are destined to be surprise Christmas presents for some very lucky enthusiasts. The result shows that not even the worst of the weather can keep buyers away if the cars on offer are attractive enough,
Of course, there must be cars there to buy, and our decision to open the Surrey Hall a day early proved a good one. Just one entry was withdrawn, in spite of the snow and ice, and we thank those vendors who brought their cars on the Sunday, thus avoiding the rush on Monday morning. With 65% of the cars on offer sold, this was an excellent result and brings 2010 to very healthy close.

The Barons did round off the year with style and for that they have earned themselves a Christmas present, they have received award from the Octane Magazine  ‘2010 Auction Car of the Year’. The award was received  for David Brown Aston Martin DBMKIII DHC which was sold by them in September, reportedly the car was a lost piece. The car had been languishing under a tarpaulin, that also on an open trailer, for none less than 32 years, and finally this historic piece is said to have been sold at Barons for £207,000.

Reportedly Barons has already set forth their future goals and their next sale will be all about Classic, Historic and Sports Car collection, venued at Sandown Park on February 8th 2011. If interested you are advised to visit www.barons-auctions.com or send in your email at info@barons-auctions.com or call 08454 306060.

Are Used Audi A4s Reliable?

Salvage Cars No Comments »

Shopping for used luxury cars can be a challenge if you don't know what pains you are in for. While used Audi A4s are not popularly known for reliability, this is somewhat of a myth as long as you are aware of some of the issues that are involved in used Audi ownership. These include knowing which engine size is more reliable, general common problems that might appear, and modding that will increase the reliability of the vehicle.

Engine Size

Of used A4s, the 2.8 liter engine is generally more reliable than the 1.8. The 1.8 has numerous common issues, some of which include oil sludge, bad ignition coils, bad water heaters, and bad oxygen sensors. Many of these problems are not extraordinarily costly to repair, but they are common and will cause you headaches if you are not prepared. Oil sludge can be dealt with by doing frequent changes with synthetic oil. The other problems are just weakly built parts and will need to be replaced if/when they go bad. Despite all this, the 1.8 has more modding ability than the 2.8 and thus might make a better project car, depending on your needs.

Common Problems

Older Audi A4s share a number of common issues that might pop up. Bad timing belts on 1999 and earlier A4s will mean an expensive repair before 60,000 miles. If timing belts are not changed before they break, they can result in serious engine damage which is far more expensive than just replacing the belt. Oil sludge, while more common in the 1.8, does creep up in other A4s as well. As above, simply do frequent oil changes with synthetic oil. Rear windows on convertible A4s are sometimes known to break loose from the canvas, which results in leaking. This can be a tricky problem, as many epoxies don't seem to be able to hold the window on permanently, and replacing the entire roof is the only solid solution.

Modding

With used Audi A4s, it is often recommended to do at least a bit of modification. Modding will replace some of the stock parts with higher quality name brand parts that have a reputation for reliability. One of the first and most basic mods is to replace the engine control unit, which controls fuel mixture and flow. This can result in a significant performance increase, and will run fairly inexpensively. Replacing the exhaust with a good name brand can help increase horsepower as well.

A used car like an Audi A4 can make an excellent and reliable vehicle, as long as you keep the above caveats in mind. While they don't have the reputation of Toyota or Honda, a solid used A4 with a bit of modding can make a great car that will last you for years.

Belvidere’s Contaminated Salvage Yard Secured By EPA

Artilcle, News, Salvage Cars No Comments »

As the news follows, officials from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are in for the removal of more than 250 containers of flammable liquids and very dangerous, poisonous gases from a residual defunct auto salvage yard located on McKinley Avenue.

Well what the officials have to say about this event is that removal of unsafe chemicals and cleanup of soil contamination taking place at the former Cadie Auto Salvage, addressed 1451 McKinley Ave., may tend to shed off at least $250,000. As it is the federal government is kinda footing the bill and hopes to seek the so-called reimbursement from responsible parties.

What the EPA officials believe is that the pollution is still contained within the site. To confirm of the fact a test was conducted on two of the nearby water wells, and guess what no trace of contamination has been found.

Now, to start it off from where it actually began, Cadie Auto Salvage, which is also popular by the name Cadie Car Hauling, was apparently founded and operated by Larry Cadie of Belvidere until his death in 2008. As reported, post his death the family members attempted to clean up the property this year and notified the Illinois EPA after they got hold of potentially hazardous materials.

Steve Faryan, EPA’s on-scene coordinator stated,

The U.S. EPA went on for inspection of the site in August and since then has been overseeing the cleanup,

Allegedly, gas cylinders of varying size were found outside a pole barn on the property and quite a number of them were labeled “chlorine” and “poisonous gas”. In addition to those there were 60 to 70 cylinders packed in wood crates spotted on the back of a truck, labeled as bearing combustible chemicals, which include triethyl borane, silane and chlorine. Also there was a 2,000-gallon tank of waste oil and several other drums of varying sizes which contained gasoline and waste oil.

Faryan commented,

It’s important to clear these off-site quickly, We did find some oils, greases and gasoline on the surface and below the surface — there is contamination. There’s going to have to be continued investigation of that.

The agency has sent letters to the Cadie family and Environmental Technical Services Corp., who Faryan said are responsible for the hazardous waste on-site. The agency could seek cleanup costs from both parties, he said.

He also added,

It doesn’t have to be done immediately, but it has to be as soon as possible — we don’t want this sitting so close to a neighborhood or a school, We’ll keep going through the winter until it’s all out of here.

Michael Houselog, who happens to be Belvidere Superintendent, stated that the district has been assured by the EPA that

“we have nothing to be concerned about at this time, probably forever, because of the way it’s being handled. We’ll be in touch with the EPA and follow their guidance in reaching out to our parents.”

Isabel Fierro who lives close enough told that her husband and all three daughters feel safe,

“It doesn’t preoccupy me, They’re working on cleaning the dirt. They came and told us.”

The EPA hopes to have the situation handled by Jan 1 with all the harmful chemicals removed and cleanup work complete.

Truths About Repossessed Cars

Salvage Cars No Comments »

If at some point you are not able to pay the bills anymore, the bank will a send repo agent to reclaim your vehicle. Therefore, your beloved car will be a repossessed car and will probably end up in someone else's garage. The sad part is you won't even get to say goodbye to your car because most agents try to avoid unpleasant situations. They just hook your car and drive off within seconds.

The economical crisis has made the people even more careful when it comes to spending large amounts of money. Financial stability is a priority these days, therefore people pay a lot of attention when it comes to investments over new things. Getting a new car is a major decision and when it comes to getting a loan from a bank for it, then you need to spend some time thinking whether this decision is correct or not. You also need to take in consideration your job, salary and life style. It's very important to make sure that you can keep up with the payments. If you don't, then you just lose a lot of money.

But let's see the situation from the other side. You don't want to get to the situation in which your car gets repossessed, so you might consider getting a used car for less money. Why don't you take advantage of someone else's moment of sadness and turn it into your moment of happiness? Go check out some repo cars parks. Ask the banks or other lending institutions where they keep the repossessed cars. Once you find out, get a mechanic with you or a friend to help you with inspecting the vehicle. Normally, you can find cars that are cheaper with 1/3 of their market value, or even more. It depends on how long their previous owners had them and paid for them. Therefore, they should be pretty new and at a good price.

Lending institutions also hold public auctions when they get too many repossessed cars or repossessed trucks, so checking one of these is a good idea as well. Good luck!

Auto Salvage Yard Contest Worth $5,000

Artilcle, Junk Cars, Salvage Cars, Used Cars, Used Parts No Comments »

Well, the salvage car biz is pretty interesting and over the past few years it has been a budding market with lots of rising prospects. But this is something which is gonna inspire awe in your heart and at the same time storm your mind. Yes, here's a Salvage Car biz owner with a contest worth none less than 5000 USD. Now, can you just think of that? No? Well, give it a second thought cause it's real and its happening.

Rusty is the owner we have been talking of. He owns an Auto Salvage owing to the site www.rustysautosalvage.com, it happens to be a nationwide auto salvage business for Rusty, which is headquartered in New York. The company has announced a mouth-watering new promotion for the month of November 2010 that is sure to salivate you. Its kinda simple also, all you got to do is sell Rusty’s a junk, used, high-mileage, damaged, wrecked, or worn-out old car, truck, RV, or van during the month of November and guess what, you will automatically be included as a part of it all, you will be a contestant to win $5,000 cash at a drawing to be held on December 13th and who can tell you might be really lucky.

Joseph Baumann, Rusty’s Chief Marketing Officer has unveiled that,

Each year over 10 million vehicles reach the end of their useful lives. Improper disposal releases mercury, plastics, oil, grease, anti-freeze, heavy metals, fluorocarbons, and fuels into the air, soil, and groundwater. Incentivizing the public is key to getting these vehicles off the streets and lawns of local communities and into environmentally sound automobile salvage facilities, With this promotion we hope to raise the public’s awareness of the harm these vehicles cause to local environments and alert them to the fact that, because of scrap values, not only is vehicle removal free of charge; in most cases, owners will receive a generous purchase price. The entire process takes minutes and is easily arranged by phone, or by submitting an online form .

Rusty's Auto Salvage is known to make the payments for junk cars, high-mileage cars, damaged, wrecked, or just plain worn-out old cars as well as junk vans, trucks, and RVs and all in cash. Well, the vehicles do not even have to be in running condition. Their business model is somewhat like this, one of the nationwide network of towing services will come to the vehicle's location, they will pay the owner in cash right there, and then finally tow the vehicle totally free of charge to a local facility for safe auto recycling.

What's more this junk car removal service benefits the local economy as much as the local environment, by turning what was once an eyesore into an asset, all credits to Rusty for establishing such a noble business. Infact, the customers aren't the only ones paid cash on the spot for junk vehicles, in list are the local towing companies and salvage yards who partner with Rusty, they also enjoy the same facilities. Let me tell you the real benefit is by processing the vehicle into spare parts, cores, and valuable scrap metals which they can very easily convert into revenue.

Buying Used Cars

Salvage Cars No Comments »

When buying Rush City used cars there are a few things you need to consider before giving up your hard earned money.  There are some tips and advice passed down through the years and I'm sharing them with you.  They may sound strange but there is a reason they were first said and then passed down through generations.  It's because the advice is sound or has proven true.  So here's my car buying advice to you.

When looking at Cambridge used cars to buy, make sure you don't look at it while it's raining.  It's not because we want to keep you warm and dry, but because for some reason used cars seem like a better deal when it's raining.  The car looks better, seems better and you may forget to check out some things because it's raining and you just want to get out of the rain.  Another thing is to really check out the car before making a payment. Have it checked out by a mechanic for replaced and dented parts, the body line of the car, the window rubbers to see if they've been spray painted and check both panel gaps.

If the used car has been in an accident the bonnet and wing has been replaced.  Always look in the bonnet.  It's also a good idea to use a refrigerator magnet to measure fillers in the car body.  A magnet will show the car body fillers as it will fail to stick to the car.  Also look at the interior.  See what the wear and tear is like, see if anything has been replaced.

Another piece of advice I've heard is to never buy a used car from Florida as it's probably been flooded and then shipped up north.  Well, since there's been so much flooding all over lately, I'd say to check out any car for signs of water damage.

How To Buy A Car Online Safely – Tips

Artilcle, Salvage Cars No Comments »

Online vehicle purchases have grown in popularity with a high number of private sellers and dealers posting near new vehicles for sale at attractive price points.  With eBay motors becoming a premier source to purchase vehicles online, many are warming up to the idea of investing a motor vehicle sight unseen.  If you have found one, or several vehicles that strike your fancy posted on the world wide web, it is important to know how to buy a car online safely.  By following these tips you can purchase a vehicle at a fraction of the price without having to haggle with high pressure salesmen.

Trusting an eBay seller is perhaps the biggest issue when purchasing a car online.  The key to trusting a dealer or individual on eBay is reviewing customer feedback and satisfaction ratings.  If you notice a seller is new or has never sold a vehicle or high valued item online, you may want to avoid this seller.  Look for premier sellers or those who have 100 percent feedback.  It takes time to build a buyers trust, most people are not willing to mess up their rankings for a profit when it can damage them in the future.

Aside from researching the seller, buyers should also research the vehicle they are purchasing.  If the vehicle is located out of state, chances are you will be purchasing it without ever seeing it in person.  Pictures will give you an idea of the aesthetics but not the mechanics.  Request the VIN from the seller and run consumer reports on the vehicle.  Also contact the DMV to determine if the vehicle is salvaged or has back fees.  All of these issues are important.

As with anything you are buying on eBay, you must go with your gut.  If a deal is too good to be true, it more than likely is.  Do the proper research and be wise when you are educating yourself on how to buy a car online safely.

The Effects of “Cash-for-Clunkers” On Salvage Car Biz

Artilcle, Salvage Cars, Used Cars No Comments »

Atif Mian and Amir Sufi are two business school economists.  With aid from these two the so called conservatives and editorial boards have eyed on the popular and successful Car Allowance Rebate System which is more popularly known as the “Cash for Clunkers”.

The truth remains that Cash for Clunkers happens to be just one small, targeted program that helped many to role the U.S. economy away from the iron fists of the Great Recession paving path for a private-sector economic recovery. The study by the Mian and Sufi duo actually re-defined the fact that the program was a success in shifting the timing of vehicle purchases, and also in revival of employment in auto-producing regions of the nation. But the conservative pundits argue that the program only moved up purchases that would have been made later anyway—and caused a major spike in used car prices to boot.

The Capability of the Program

The implementation was pillared upon a simple logic. By  providing incentives on deals and thus rolling up the transactions, jobs could have been created when there was utmost need at the depth of the Great Recession.

The American auto industry which was then in a staggering state victimized by financial crisis and the Great Recession. It was in need of some kind of a re-incarnation. This policy was beneficiary for both dealers and consumers. Dealers would receive a more modest boost from front-loading sales to help them cope up with the prevailing crisis. Consumers got the opportunity to get hold of a shiny new car and also bank on gasoline costs.

During the period of July 24, 2009 through August 2009, the program facilitated consumers with $3,500 to $4,500 bonus for trading in an old car or light truck that provided average fuel economy less than 18 miles per gallon. These cars had to be post 1984 manufactured. In exchange the customers got a new, more fuel-efficient vehicle. The Congress gave away $3 billion for the Cash for Clunkers program of the $830 billion that conservatives wanted to spend on tax cuts for the richest two percent of Americans.

Estimations by the Chicago Federal Reserve Board depicted that 16 percent of cars on the road and 66 percent of light trucks were eligible according to the program’s requisites.  An arbitrary total of 69.4 million cars and light trucks satisfied the norms for trade-in under the program. An amazing figure of 677,842 applications for sales vouchers under the Cash for Clunkers program were approved by the Department of Transportation, all in just the four-week program.

The Effects that this Policy laid on the Salvage biz

According to the conservatives, the policy caused a hike in the price of salvage cars of about 10 percent since the summer of 2009. This was not at all a positive factor for many cause the poor were not able to buy new cars altogether. But if sought for a logical explanation it can be cited that it was the recession that lead to the price hike. Though the program could also have been one of the probable reasons to the crisis.

The program did increase local employment at at car dealerships, salvage yards, and in related ancillary services but the percentages could'nt have been exactly tracked.

So, the policy isn't that bad after all is it?

How To Sell Your Car

Salvage Cars No Comments »

A dream car is on many people's wish list, but to realize the dream, we may have to get rid of other cars first. For different reasons, I may decide to sell my car at some point, either to sell my car for cash, to buy a new car, or because we're moving. It is important to put some thought into deciding to sell a car, in order to realize the most value you can possibly receive.

Before deciding to sell your car, do a thorough study of the market for used cars. Check out the value generally offered for your model car, how much demand there is for the car, and where to go for the best deals when you sell your car. You may find that family sedans are the most popular, and there is usually a steady demand for SUVs. Only particular buyers normally buy sports cars. Browsing the classified ads in newspapers and online will give you a good idea of what is offered, and for what price.

After you get a feel for how much money you can possibly get when you sell your car, take advantage of price competition. Price your car by considering the make, the model, mileage on the engine, the car's appearance, conditions and any special features. Leave some room to negotiate, as many buyers will want to haggle over the price. Just be careful not to price your car out of the market, as buyers will tune out if it is too high.

When you are ready to present your car for sale, make sure it looks as good as any bride would want to, on her special day. The first thing people see, of course, is the appearance, so you want it to be washed, waxed and shined. If it has a few minor scratches, use spray-on paint to cover them. An auto parts store can help you select the right car paint. Have your mechanic check your car, so you are aware of any potential repairs, and fix the minor ones. Clean out all your personal items from inside of the car and check the interior for dust and dirt. Remember to clean out the trunk. Clean the seats, floor mats and windows. Air it out and spray with car scent to create a nice fresh smell. Buyers will want to test drive your car, and having it look and smell its best is important. Taking these steps will help ensure you receive the most money you can for your car.
